Question
Problem 2.50
Roger sees water balloons fall past his window. He notices that each balloon strikes the sidewalk 0.45 s after passing his window. Roger's room is on the second floor, 10 m above the sidewalk.
Part A
How fast are the balloons traveling when they pass Roger's window?
Express your answer to three significant figures and include the appropriate units.

Part B
Assuming the balloons are being released from rest, from what floor are they being released? Each floor of the dorm is 5.0 m high.
Express your answer as an integer.
v =Explanation / Answer
let the velocity at the window be u
time to reasch the sidewalk = 0.45 s
distance (s) = 10m
we know, the kinematic equation ,
S= ut + 0.5gt2
=> 10 = u*0.45+ 0.5* 9.8 * (0.45)2
=>9.00775/0.45 =u
=> u =20.017m/s
b) now let the final velocity be 20.017 m/s
initial be 0m/s
we use ,
V2-U2= 2gS
=>(20.017 )2 - (0)2 = 2* 9.8 * S
=>S= 20.443 m
so, total height= 20.44 + 10 = 30m
so the no. of floors = 30/5 = 6
so, the baloons are released from 6th floor
