Question

Question 1: In the picture below, the two wires carry current i1 and i2, respectively, with positive current to the right. The charge q is positive and has velocity v to the right. (It is midway between the two wires, as shown) ("North" is up the page, "East" is right, and so on.)

For the statements below, select T-True, F-False. If the first is T and the rest F, enter TFFFF.

A) If i1 = i2, then the wires repel each other.
B) If i1 is greater than i2, then the force on q is north.
C) If i1 = - i2, then the force on q is zero.
D) If i1 = 0 and i2 is greater than zero, then the magnetic field near charge q points into the page.
E) If v = 0, then the force on q is zero.
F) If i1 = 0 and i2 is greater than zero, then the force on q is south

Question 2: Consider the behavior of the circuit shown in the figure, when various values increase or decrease

(Select I-increases, D-decreases, If the first is I and the rest D, enter IDDDDD).

A) If R1 decreases, the current through R3 ______.
B) If the voltage V increases, the total current from the battery ______.
C) If R1 decreases, the current through R6 _______.
D) If R6 increases, the power output from the battery ______.
E) If R3 increases, the current through R5 ______.
F) If R3 decreases, the current from the battery______ .

Explanation / Answer

Since each question has too many subparts please divide it on 2 sepate posts. I gonna help you with Q1:

A) F. Parallel currents attract

B)  T, I1 a magnetic field into the page at q and I2 produces a magnetic field pointing out of the page at q. If I1>I2, the force will be north (derived from F= qv × B).

C) F. The force is downward since both wires produce a magnetic field out of the page at the midpoint

D) F. I2 produces a magnetic field pointing out of the page at q. According to the right hand rule.

E)  T. F= qv × B . If v=0 then F=0

F) T. I2 produces a magnetic field pointing out of the page at q, according to the right hand rule. The force is south since F= qv × B
