Question
In Lab 9, you will be testing Lenz?s law that you learned in Monday Lecture and applying your knowledge of electromagnetic induction to develop a practical application. In this case you will be building an electric generator using simple equipment. You electric generator must produce variable emf that is strong enough to light up a small LED. You will be given the following equipment: Think of possible designs and most importantly estimate the number of turns in a coil of wire of a reasonable surface area that might give you enough emf when a magnet moves through with the following parameters: Coil diameter = 13mm Time interval of magnet moving through coil = 15 ms Efficiency of magnet/coil combo (the % of B field lines entering loop) = 50%Explanation / Answer
The electromagnetic induction is e = -N(d(flux))/dt
Given that , we learn that e must be in the order of 1.9 to 2 Volts
The magnet is moved within 15ms
so dt = 15ms
flux = B.A(which will depend on design)
and metrics of awg34
Hence forth you can get number of turns
