Question
In this problem it gives a partial answer for the y coordinate of the centroid. I have calculated it multiple times and keep coming up with the y coordinate about 1.08m. Method I used: symmetrical along x plain therefore the x coordinate is (half the length of the x segment) 3.6575m (this is correct). Then just looking at the y-z face one can split the trapezoid into a triangle and rectangle. Then using the equation y-coordinate=(A1*Y1+A2*Y2)/(A1+A2). Where A1 and A2 are the areas of the rectangle and triangle and Y1 and Y2 are the y coordinates of their respective centroids. In theory this should work for both obtaining both the z and y coordinates, but I dont get the right answer. What am I missing, am I missing anything? Thank you in advance for the help.
Find the coordinates of the centroid (x, y,) of a homemade soccer goal (see fig.). Assume that all members are of uniform size and member lengths are given in meters (see fig.). 1.219 m 2.726 m 2438 m Partial Answer -= 1.127m 7.315 m 2.438 mExplanation / Answer
the centoid for y will be
y=(A1Y1+A2Y2)/(A1+A2)
y = (2.438*1.219 *1.219 + 1/2*1.219*2.438 *2.438/3) / (2.438*1.219 + 1/2*1.219*2.438 )
Y=1.08 m
even i am getting the same answer.
there might be a misprint of answer
