Question
A) A circular swimming pool has a flat bottom
and a 6.51 m diameter. It is filled with water
to a depth of 2.32 m. There is 0.787 atm of
pressure on the top surface.
What is the absolute pressure at the bottom?
The acceleration of gravity is 9.8 m/s
2.
Answer in units of Pa.
B) Two people with a combined mass of 164 kg
get into the pool and float there quietly.
What is the resulting increase in the absolute
pressure at the bottom?
Answer in units of Pa
Part A answer was 102223 Pa. I just can't find part B.
Explanation / Answer
B)
for part B , as the mass is 164 Kg ,
let the increase in depth is d
d*pi*(6.51/2)^2 * 1000 = 164
d = 4.93 *10^-3 m
change in pressure = 1000 * 9.8 * 4.93 *10^-3
change in pressure = 48.3 Pa
the increase in pressure at the bottom is 48.3 Pa
