Answer: For me diversity means that we all interact as humans and take pride in our similarities and differences, whether they be along lines of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, economic status, ability, religion, or anything else.
Information that helps to collect during the registration process on patient demographic data such as: age, gender, race and ethnicity; becomes a part of the patient's medical record etc. Because race and ethnicity affect patients' health and healthcare, it is critical to collect this information. Respect is at the heart of cultural competence-patients who feel their healthcare providers respect their beliefs, customs, values, language, and traditions are more likely to communicate freely and honestly, which can, in turn, reduce disparities in healthcare and improve patient outcomes.
Cultural competence in health care describes the ability to provide care to patients with diverse values, beliefs and behaviors, including tailoring health care delivery to meet patients' social, cultural needs.
