Question

When an object is placed 60cm in front of a covering lens it forms a real image at some distance away from the lens. when the object is moved 20cm closer to the lens it forms a virtual image the same distance away from the lens but on the other side.(a)find the focal length of the lens,(b) what are the image distances and the total magnification in the two cases? c)Support your conclusions by drawing the appropriate ray digrams and describe the final images in words. The primary of a transformer is connected to a 110v AC wall socket. The secondary is connected to a 3 ohm ,60 W lightbulb.(a)what is the voltage in the secondary? (b) what is the current in the primary?(c) calculate the turn ratio between the primary and secondary windings. three long wires in a plane are parallel to each other, with separations as shown. The currents in the wires are I1=3A,I2=4A, and I3=6A and they flow in the direction shown in the sketch.(a)calculate the force (direction and magnitude) on a 25cm long segment of the wire in the middle.(b) calculate the magnetic field at 2cm left of I1.

Explanation / Answer

2)

Voltage of primary, Vp = 110 V

Power = P = 60 W

Resistance of secondsry, Rs = 3 ohm

We know, P = V^2/R

So, Vs = sqrt(P*R) = sqrt(60*3) = 13.4 V <------- voltage in secondary

b)

Current in secondary = 13.4/3 = 4.47 A <------answer

c)

turns ratio = 110/13.4 = 8.2 <----answer
