Question

There is a significant difference between listening and hearing. Hearing is simply the act of recognizing sounds. However, listening is the act of hearing and ready to give a response or a on what someone is saying. Both listening, and hearing require different levels of interaction with others. One example is talking with my brother, I am learning not be judgmental and interrupting hinm when he tells me about situations. I found myself being an offensive listener, maybe because I am the oldest and I feel as if I know more than he does and experienced more things. I would already have an opinion about the conversation before he even spoke to me. So, when we did talk I will interrupt him and never let him finish his thought. I started to notice, that we would never finish the conversation and I would leave upset even though he was the one that came to me. I began to approach the conversation with an open mind and was ready to listen to what was bothering him. I stopped interrupting him, unless I was asking questions to understand what he was telling me. Then I could evaluate what he told me and still be objective in my response. He now comes to me more to vent his problems because he knows that I will not judge him, listen to hat is being said, and relay facts to him and not my opinion. I strongly agree that effective listening varies according to the purpose of why we are listening and the people who we interact with. An example of this is when I am working. I work at an ice cream shop and help people of different age groups. Most customers I assist tend to be adults in their mid-thirties ordering for themselves and their families. They almost always begin by saying "Can I get the flavor..... and end their sentence. Since I am so used to vague customers n providing the full order I am constantly saying the phrase "in a cup or a cone." One man came up and ordered and I interrupted him and asked, "in a cup or cone?" I ended up making the situation more complicated than it should have been because he was simply getting to my question.I learned that it is important to everyone tends to make the same mistake and can order just fine let them finish what they were saying before I respond because, not The ability to adapt listening behaviors definitely helps one advance in their career. Not only are they more liked by others, but they are also able to grasp more life knowledge. This ability enables them to arise above as a leader and role model because they are.able.to listen. Hence, they will be able to convey their thoughts more clearly Q- Respond to the above article and write your opinion ?

Explanation / Answer

Article above is an absolute correct observation.

I also believe that hearing and listening both are very different thing and should be used accordingly.

In the first paragraph when writer and his brother are talking, the first time writer should have listened the first time to his brother and not judged him. But the rectification of the situation was the proper act by the writer.

In my opinion, when you are talking to your family you should always listen and when you are working in a chain and every time a customer keeps bothering you always hear because sometimes it is better to ignore some people.
