as at any point of time , during circular motion , the direction of velcity is tangential to the path of the object.

Now, when the girl let go of the box , as there is no friction to provide the neeede centripetal force on the box ,

the acceleration of the box will be zero

and according to first law of motion ,

the path of box will be a straight line .
