Explanation / Answer

Case study 1

1. The first sign which can be noticed is a patch of red and itchy skin.

Impetigo appears as a blister or group of blisters anywhere in the body such as near mouth, nose, hands or skin that is not covered by clothes.

Ultimately the blisters might ooze or be lined with a honey colored crust. Several germs live below this crust.

Presence of small spots can be noticed around the first sores which spread outwards.

2. As impetigo is contagious and can spread to other parts of the body, the infected child must be instructed to keep the sores covered.

Other children must be instructed to not to share any objects with the one who is infected with impetigo

Prevent the infected child from touching and scratching the sore as it may spread to other parts of the body; if touched, ensure to make him/her hands washed immediately.

If the child with impetigo develop fever or skin near the impetigo becomes red, swollen, warm or painful when touched, should immediately contact doctor and his/her parents.

3. Impetigo is mainly caused by bacteria called staphylococcus and streptococcus.

It is also caused when child comes in contact with the person infected with impetigo.

If the same clothes, towels, bed sheets or objects are shared with someone infected with impetigo

If the child has other skin problems such as eczema, insect bites, cuts or fungal infections.
