5. Bat-like Man is leapine from builaimeters belowe the hos at-like Man eaping from building to building in pursuit of the Jokester. The rooftop of the nexo neters away and 15 meters below the roof he is currenily on. If he jumps with building 6.10 m/s ding is 10r velocity of 6.10 velocity of 6.10 m a What are the components of the initial velocity? (6) How long will it take to successfully land on the lower roof? (c) How far will he actually travel horizontally in the time it takes to land on the lower roof (d) Compare your answer from (c) to the horizontal distance to the roof of the next building a mi's at an angle of 25 degrees above the horizontal, will he make it? Does Bat-like Man succeed in landing on that rooftop? (Be sure to include "because" in your answer) 2 Answer: (ajvax Answer 5

Explanation / Answer

Ho = 15 m

u = 6.1 m/s

theta = 25 degrees

(a) Vertical component of initial velocity = u sin(theta) = 6.1 * sin (25 degrees) = 2.57 m/s

Horizontal component of initial velocity = u cos(theta) = 6.1 * cos (25 degrees) = 5.53 m/s

(b) t = ( u sin(theta) / g + sqrt(  ( u sin(theta) / g )^2 - (2Ho/g))

t = (2.57/9.81) + sqrt((2.57/9.81)^2 - (2*15/9.81)) = 0.262 + 1.729 = 1.99 s

Time taken to land = 1.99 s

(c) Horizontal distance traveleld = u cos(theta) t = 5.53 x 1.99 = 11 m

(d) 11 m > 10 m

Hence Bat like man succeed in landing ( since 11 m > 10 m which is distance of next building )
