Question
PRE-LAB FORM MAGNETIC FORCE AND MEASURING THE PERMEABILITY The two anti-parallel currents shown in the illustration have a common diameter D 0.33 cm, spacing between them 0.1cm, a common interacting length 25.0 cm, and each carrying the same current IE 1. The lower current is into the paper. What is the direction of the magnetic field due to this current at the position of the upper current? 2. What is the direction of the force on the top current-carrying rod? 3. Calculate the magnitude of the force on the upper current-carrying rod. 4. Determine the mass (in milligrams, mg) whose weight on the top conductor would just equal the force calculated in the question above.Explanation / Answer
1)
here,
lower current is into the paper
by using Right-hand curle rule,
the direction of the magnetic field due to above said current is right side for the given diagram,
2)
by using Fleming left rule:
the direction of the force is downward
3)
F=(uo*i1*i2)*l/(2pi*r)
here,
r=(0.1)+(0.33/2)
=0.265 cm
now,
F=(4pi*10^-7*8*8)*0.25/(2pi*2.65*10^-5)
=0.12 N
4)
w=m*g
m=w/g
=0.12/9.8
=0.012321 kg
=12.32 milli gram
