Question
1. A rectangular loop of wire with dimensions 1.50 cm by 8.00 cm and resistance R = 0.600 Ohm is being pulled to the right out of a region of uniform magnetic field. At the instant when the speed of the loop is 3.00 m/s and it is still partially in the field region. Because the magnetic flux through the loop is changing, an emf will be induced in the loop, which will induce a current in the loop. So if the magnetic field exerts a force of 0.0138 N on the loop due to this current, and that the force on the left-hand end of the loop to be to the left. Then (a) what is the magnitude of the magnetic field B? (b) Is the Magnetic field into the page OR out of the page based on the figure? (c) Is the magnetic flux decreasing or increasing?Explanation / Answer
a) Let I is current through the loop.
so, I = induced emf/R
I = B*v*L/R
force acting on short segment, F = B*I*L*sin(90)
F = B*(B*v*L/R)*L*sin(90)
F = B^2*v*L^2/R
B = sqrt(F*R/(v*L^2))
= sqrt(0.0138*0.6/(3*0.015^2))
= 3.5 T
b) In to the page
c) decreasing
