Question
a) What is the equivalent resistance of the four resistors? In other words, what single resistor would replace all four resistors and still draw the same current from the battery?
b) What is the current directly out of the battery? A
c) The voltage across the three resistors with 7 , 48 , and 16 must be the same. ---Select--- False True
d) Use the information above to find and tabulate the current through and the potential difference across each resistor.
Explanation / Answer
a)
the resistors in parallel ( 7 , 48 , 16 ohms)
R5 = 1 / ( 1 / R1 + 1 / R2 + 1 / R3 )
R5 = 1 / ( 1 / 7 + 1 / 48 + 1 / 16 )
R5 = 4.42 ohm
then this R5 and 3 ohm resistors are in series
Req = 4.42 + 3
Req = 7.42 ohm
so the equivalent resistance of the circuit is 7.42 ohm
b)
by using ohm's law
V = I * Req
I = 6 / 7.42
I = 0.8086 amp
c)
the voltage across the resistors which is parallel is always same
this is trure
