Question
In cats tiger pattern (T) is dominant over black color (t). On another chromosome are alleles for tail length, B + b which have the expression BB, tailless or manx, Bb botailed and bb, long tailed
Parent cats are TtBb x TtBb
a) what proportion of their offspring would be black in color?
b) What proportion of their ofspring would be manx cats?
c What proportion of the offspring would be black and bobtailed?
Tt Bb
Bb
Tt
Im still having trouble setting up the and i dont think this is correct some help would be much appreciated.
Explanation / Answer
a) You're crossing Tt with Tt. The possible genotypes are: TT, Tt, Tt and tt. Black is recessive so the only way to get it is to gain the "tt" genotype. Therefore, 1 out of every 4 will be black. b) You're crossing Bb with Bb. The possible genotypes are: BB, Bb, Bb and bb. manx = BB. Therefore, 1 out of eery 4 will be Manx c What proportion of the offspring would be black and bobtailed (Bb)? Looking back at "b" there is a 1/2 chance be being bobtailed and we already know there is a 1/4 chance of being black so. (1/4) X (1/2) = 1/8 chance of being black and bobtailed.
