Question
I need these answers brokeN down I seem to be working the algebra problem wrong. Kinenatics Problem 2.51 lem 2.51 Part A ock dimber stands on top of a 57 m high lif erhanging a pool of water. He throws two stones vertically wnward 1.0 s apart and observes that they cause a single plash. The iniial speed of the first stone was 2.0 m/s How long after the release of the first stone does the second stone hit the wer? Express your answer to two significant figures and include the appropriate units 3.0 y Answers Give ncorrect Try Again; 4 attempts remaining Part B What was the initial speed of the secoend stone? Express your answer to two significant figures and include the appropriate unitsExplanation / Answer
given,
height = 57 m
speed of first stone = 2 m/s
time between first and second stone = 1 sec
time taken by first stone to reaxh water is t so
by second equation of motion
s = ut + 0.5 * a * t^2
57 = 2 * t + 0.5 * 9.8 * t^2
t = 3.213 sec
since stones are causing single splash so both has to reach at same time so,
second stone will hit the water 3.213 sec after the release of first stone
since second stone was released after 1 second so, time second stone will get to reach water = 3.213 - 1
time = 2.213 sec
57 = u * 2.213 + 0.5 * 9.8 * 2.213^2
u = 14.9 m/s
initial speed of second stone = 14.9 m/s
