Question

jenifer likes to play golf. for this shot, the distance between the spine and the club head is 13m when the club hits the ball it is travelling at 25m/s once the ball leave the club it is travelling with a horizontal velocity of 12m/s

1. how fast is the body and the club rotating?

2. after the backswing. it takes .2 sec to hit the ball. what is the angular acceleration of the club head answer in degrees/ s^2

3. what is the balls vertical velocity takeoff

4 what is the takeoff angle, the balls resultant takeoff velocity with horizaontal?

5. what is the balls horizaontal velocity just before it lands?

6. what is the balls vertical velocity before it lands

Explanation / Answer

Note: the distance between the spine and the club head should not be 13m as it is huge. So I am taking it as 1.3m

1) angular velocity = v/r = 25m/s /1.3m =19.23 rad/s

2) angular acc = 19.23/0.2 = 96.15 rad/s^2

3) vertical velocity = sqrt(25^2-12^2) = 21.93 m/s

4) theta = arccos(12/25) = 61.3 degree

5) horizontal velocity is constant = 12 m/s

6) vertical velocity = 21.93 m/s downwards because it should be equal (opposite) to launch vertical velocity
