I need help with part 2 (in bold), just included the whole parts for reference
Part 1: John has been suffering agonizing pain with each breath and has been informed by his physician that he has pleurisy. (a) Specifically, what membranes are involved in this condition? (b) What is their usual role in the body? (c) Explain why John’s condition is so painful.
The parietal pleura and visceral pleura are the membranes that surround the lungs. Pleurisy is the inflammation of the pleural layers.
The role of the membranes is to help the lung expand and relax when there is inhalation and exhalation. Pleura membranes lubricate surfaces of parietal and visceral layers for an ease in expansion and relaxation.
Johns condition is very painful due to the fact that the membranes are inflamed, so when he breaths, the membranes move causing pain.
Part 2: In adults, over 90% of all cancers are either adenomas (adenocarcinomas) or carcinomas. In fact, cancers of the skin, lung, colon, breast and prostate are all in these categories. Which of the four basic tissue types give rise to most cancers and why do you think this is so? Finally, how does John’s physician know, definitively, that John does not have lung cancer and that he has pleurisy instead? What is the usual cause for and treatment of, if any, for pleurisy?
The four basic types of tissue are epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous tissue. I think that epithelial tissues are the ones that give most rise to cancers because cells tend to reproduce faster due to the fact that they are exposed to the environment, considering them to be mitotic unlike the other tissues. Cancer occurs when other cells reproduce aggressively and invade other cells giving the chance of higher risk of mutation.
Explanation / Answer
Pleurisy have a characteristic sound of rubbing when heard by stetoscope its a rubbing sound instead if it is a cancer it will lead to blood in cough. Epithalial layers get inflammated not increase in no of cell the fluid space between layers decreases leading to a sound that is diagonsed by stetoscope other than this Tuberculosis, asbestosis like history give idea about pleurosity
