The model has a 5.4 cm diameter and is to be tested with water flowing past it at 3.4 m/s. (a) With what speed must the water flow in the part of the pipe that is unconstricted by the model? (b) What will the pressure difference be between the constricted and unconstricted parts of the pipe?

(a) cross-section area A = (/4)(24cm)² = 452.389 cm²
reduced area Ar = (/4)(24² - 5.4²)cm² = 429.487 cm²
The flow rate must be the same at both points: Q = v * Ar = v' * A
3.4m/s * 429.487cm² = v' * 452.389cm²
v' = 3.228 m/s =3.23 m/s
(b) Bernoulli: p = ½(v² - v'²) = ½ * 1000kg/m³ * (3.4² - 3.228²)m²/s²
p = 570.008 Pa =570.01 Pa
