Question

Two capacitors are connected in parallel across a 30.0-V battery. If their capacitances are 11.0 muF and 20.0 muF, determine the following, (a) the voltage across each capacitor V_11.0 muf= V V_20.0 mu_F V (b) the magnitude of charge stored on each plate of the 11.0 muF capacitor Your response differs significantly from the correct answer. Rework your solution from the beginning and check each step carefully. C (c) the magnitude of charge stored on each plate of the 20.0 muF capacitor (d) the equivalent capacitance of the system

Explanation / Answer

a) capacitors are connected in parallel with battery.

so PD across each capacitor will be same as battery.

V11 = 30 V

V20 = 30 V

b) Q = CV

Q_11 =11uF x 30 = 330 uC

c) Q_20 = 20uF x 30 = 600 uC

d)for parallel connenction,

Ceq = C1 + C2 = 11 + 20 =31 uF
