Question
Circular Orbit Problem
At what altitude will a satellite complete a circular orbit of the Earth in 2.0h
The information i retrived so far is T=2hr = (2hours*60minutes*60secs) = (7200s)^2= 51840000s
I know that T = ((G)(M)(T^2))/((4)(pi^2)) exponet evaluation : -11+24+7=20
so after this information i put in r3 = [(6.67*10-11)*(5.97*1024)*(5.2*107)]/((4)*(3.14)2) =(5.25*1020)^3 im getting 1.4470*1062 This answer is not correct can you please tell me what went wrong in the problem please.
Explanation / Answer
Here ,
time period is T
T = 2 hour = 2 * 3600 s
T = 7200 s
Now , let the radius of orbit is r
T^2/r^3 = 4 *pi^2/(G * M)
(7200)^2/r^3 = 4 pi^2/(6.73 *10^-11 * 5.98 *10^24)
solving for r
r = 8.085 *10^6 m
altitude of satellite = r - radius of earth
altitude of satellite = 8.085 *10^6 - 6.673 *10^6 m
altitude of satellite = 1.412 *10^6 m
the altitude of satellite is 1.412 *10^6 m
there must be some calculation error in your amswer
