Question

A student stands at the edge of a cliff and throws a stone horizontally over the edge with a speed of v0 = 19.5 m/s. The cliff is h = 63.0 m above a flat, horizontal beach as shown in the figure.

(c) Write the equations for the x- and y-components of the velocity of the stone with time. (Use the following as necessary: t. Let the variable t be measured in seconds. Do not include units in your answer.)

(d) Write the equations for the position of the stone with time, using the coordinates in the figure. (Use the following as necessary: t. Let the variable t be measured in seconds. Do not state units in your answer.)

(f) With what speed and angle of impact does the stone land?

Please show your work, as I have tried this mutiple times and can't get it right. Thank you!

Explanation / Answer

Figure is not attached here. I would give the answers in folliwing way.

1st part

Horizontal(x) component if the velocity will not change ( coz ther is no acceleration in that direction.)

Vx=19.5

Verticle velocity component.

Vy= 0+gt. Where g is the gravitational acceleration.

Part two

Sx=19.5t.since there ua no horizontal acceleration.

Sy=0+0.5gt2

Part three

Vertical velocity component at the impact

Vy=0+2g63

V=(19.52 + 126g2)0 .5

Angle=tan-1(126g/19.5) ( w.r.t horizontal direction)
