Question
A resistance R and a 0.7 H inductance are in series across a 50 Hz ac voltage. The voltage across the resistor is 35 V and the voltage across the inductor is 55 V. Be sure to use the geometric method (pythagorean theorem) to add the voltages across r and L.
A resistance R and a 0.7 H inductance are in series across a 50 Hz ac voltage. The voltage across the resistor is 35 V and the voltage across the inductor is 55 V. Be sure to use the geometric method (pythagorean theorem) to add the voltages across r and L L. (a) What is the resistance R? (b) What is the ac input voltage?Explanation / Answer
Here .
Frequency , f = 50 Hz
inductance , L = 0.7 H
VR = 35 V
VL = 55 V
a) let the resistance is R
XL = 2pi * f * L
XL = 2pi * 50 * 0.7 Ohm
XL = 220 Ohm
Now , for the reistance
VR/R = VL/XL
35/R = 55/220
R = 140 ohm
the resistance R is 140 Ohm
b)
for the input ac voltage
input ac voltage = sqrt(VR^2 + VL^2)
input ac voltage = sqrt(35^2 + 55^2)
input ac voltage = 65.2 V
the input ac voltage is 65.2 V
