Question
Return to Blackboard Help I System Announcements A baseball laves a pitcher's hand horzontally at a speed of 107 km/h. The distance to the batter is 18.3 m. (tonore the affect of air resistance.) (e) How long does the ball take to travel the first half of that distance? (b) The second half? (c) How far does the ball tall freely during the first half? (d) Duning the second hal? (a) N 308 (b) Number imum Points for this question. For you will eam points according to the Point Potential policy set by your instructerExplanation / Answer
A. ball take t = 0.308 sec to travel first half
B. Since the ball travels with constant velocity in the x direction, it takes the same time t = 0.308 sec to travel the second half of the trip.
C. yf = yi + Vyi*t + 0.5*ay*t^2
Viy = 0 m/sec
yf - yi = 0 + 0.5*ay*t^2
ay = -g
yf - yi = 0.5*(-9.81)*0.308^2 = -0.465 m
D.
(yf - yi)second half = -0.5*g*T^2
(yf - yi)second half = -0.5*9.81*0.616^2 = -1.861 m
So during the second half it fell = -1.861 - (-0.465) = -1.396 m
I'm getting the same answer As you, they should be correct.
I think you should try positive value(0.465 m and 1.396 m) for your answers.
Let me know if it works.
