Question
Chemistry 325/525 Thursday, September 13, 2017 2) Equilibrium constants are always dependent upon temperature. In determining equilibrium constants for biochemical reactions the equilibrium constant also depends upon ion concentration and proton concentration. Write down an equation in differential form that describe the dependence of an equilibrium constant K for a protein binding to DNA, where the equilibrium constant, K is a function of Temperature, [NaClI], and [H], i.e. dK(T, [NaCI], [H+]).Explanation / Answer
Ans. On increasing the temperature the equillibrium constant decreases thus an increase in temperature would result in reduction of equillibrium constant. It depends on H+ ion concentration and NaCl. Thus the differential equation would be.
dK/dt = (d[H+]/dt + d[NaCl]/dt) / dT/dt
where k = equilibrium constant
H+ = ionic concentration
T = temperature
