Explanation / Answer

Function of peroxisomes is lipid oxidation . They contain enzymes associated with lipid metabolism. They are involved in Beta-oxidation of fatty acids. They are also involved in the synthesis of plasmalogen which is a phospholipid abundant in myelin. Plasmalogens consititute 1/5 of the phospholipids in human body and are found in membranes of brain, heart , spleen cells, macrophages and neutrophils. First three reaction for plasmalogen synthesis takes place in peroxisomes.

The membrane bound or secretory proteins are synthesized by membrane bound ribosomes in endoplasmic reticulum also known as rough ER.

Thesoluble proteins to be distributed into different cells organelles are synthesized on free ribsomes present in the cytosol . Since peroxisome is a cell organelle, its associated proteins are also synthesized on free ribosome in cytoplasm.

Vacuole associated proteins are synthesized in the rough endoplasmic reticulum.
