Question
Please help me with this question and show all work! III. An equipotential map is constructed for T 10V +30V +50 an electric field as shown. Values for the -10V potential of the lines are also added. a) In the diagram, show the position of 30V the positiva and negative charges creating these potential lines. Explain your choices. [3] -50V b) Calculate the change in alactric potential in going from point A to point B 70V along the path shown. [3] c) Calculate the change in electric potential enargy (EPE) in moving a -4HuC charge from point B to point A. [3] d) Does the charge gain or lose Electric Potential Energy (EPE)? Explain your answer. e) Calculate the amount of work dona in moving the charge from B to A. Explain who does the work. [3] f) If the straight line distance between A & B is 0.06m determine the average electric ald strangth between A & B. [3]Explanation / Answer
a) potential due to a point charge as distance is given as kq/r.
is q is negative then V will be -ve.
nnegative charge is at end B side and +ve charge is at opposite end (towardA)
and at midpoint , potential is -ve so that means -ve charge is greater in magnitude than
+ve charge.
b) Vab = Vb - Va = -70 - (30) = -100 volt
c) change in PE = q deltaV
= -4 x 10^-6 C x -100 V = 4 x 10^-4 J
d) change in PE is +ve. so its gain Potential energy.
as we move negative charge from A to B. We are moving it from +ve to -ve so we have to
do work against electric force hence PE equal to this work magnitude stores as EPE.
e)
work done =- change in PE = - q (Va- Vb) =
Work done = 4 x 10^4 J
this work is done by electric force.
f) E = V/d = 100/ 0.06 =1666.67 N/C
