Thanks!

A paraplegic patient is stretching the hamstring muscles by bending forward from a sitting position. The patient is sitting with the upper body flexed as far as possible. The weight of the head and trunk is 400N. The center of gravity of the head and trunk is 0.2m anterior to the center of rotation of the hip. The combined weight of the arms is 80N; and their common center of gravity is 0.5m anterior to the center of rotation of the hip. How large is the flexing torque (M) on the hip?

Explanation / Answer

torque M on the hip = (r1*F1*sin(90))+(r2*F2*sin(90))

M = (0.2*400)+(0.5*80) = 120 N-m
