Question
You have a lens whose focal length is-6.45 cm. You place an object on the axis of the lens at a distance of 12.5 cm from it. How far is the object's image from the lens (as a positive quantity)? Number ncorrect 13.32 cm You seem to be adding when you should be subtracting. Check your algebra. If it can be determined, is the image real or virtual? O Cannot be Cannot be determined O Real Virtual If it can be determined, is the image upright or inverted with respect to the object? O Cannot be determined O Upright O InvertedExplanation / Answer
Given,
f = -6.45 cm ; o = 12.5 cm
We know from lens equation that,
1/f = 1/i + 1/o
i = o x f / ( o - f) = 12.5 x -6.45 / ( 12.5 + 6.45) = -4.25 cm
Hence, image distance = i = - 4.25 cm
The image is virtual. (Since the image distance is negative)
we know that, M = -i/o = -(-4.25)/12.5 = +0.34
Hence, the image is upright. (Since the magnification is positive).
