Question

the purpose in the lab was to show the relationship between pressure nad volume of a gas. In the lab temperature is held constant. The question is

Calculate the volume of the tube which represents the dead volume. i got it. its v=pier^2h which is pie (0.015cm)^2(59.5cm) which is 0.04205 cm^3 =0.4205 mm^2 Correct? The diameter was 3mm and the length was 59.5cm.

The next question is asking for each volume calculate PxV Do not forget to add your calculated value of the dead volume before you perform these calculations?. I dont get what i have to do. Im given this table.

V=20ml P=97.17 1/P= 0.01029

V=18ml P=105.96 1/P= 0.009437

V=16ml P= 117.67 1/P= 0.008498

and several more So what do i do for this?

Explanation / Answer

for calculating volume, you used v = pi* r^2 *h

value of r used need correction, because diameter = 3mm = 0.3 cm

so, r = d/2 = 0.15 cm

hence, volume = pi* (0.15)^2 * 59.5 = 4.204 cm^3

Foe further calculations, we have to find product of pressure and volume.

volume = 20ml = 20 cm^2

net volume = 20 cm^3 + 4.204 cm^3 = 24.204 cm^3

value for pressure is not clear from the question
