Question
Each of two long straight parallel wires 15 cm apart carries a current of 100 A. The figure shows a cross section, with the wires running perpendicular to the page and point P lying on the perpendicular bisector of the line between the wires. Find the magnitude and direction of the magnetic field at P when the current in the left-hand wire is out of the page and the current in the right-hand wire is also out of the page.
What is the magnitude of B?
What is the value of Bx?
What is the value of By?
What is the value of Bz?

Explanation / Answer
magnetic field due to wire = k * I / r
magnetic field due to wire = 2 * 10^-7 * 100 / (0.15 / (2 * cos(45)))
magnetic field due to wire = 0.0001885 T
since the magnetic field due to both the wires are in 90 degrees to each other so,
net magnetic field = sqrt(2) * 0.0001885
magnitude of B = 0.0002665 T in -x direction
Bx = -0.0002665 T
By = 0 T becasue y component of both the fields cancel each other
Bz = 0 T
