Question

1. Two lenses, the first with focal length -12.5 cm and the second with focal length 20.0cm, are separated by 15.0 cm. If an object is placed 50.0 cm in front of the first lens, where is the final image formed? A. 10.0 cm before the first lens B. 25.0 cm before the second lens C. 25.0 cm after the second lens D. 100.0 cm after the second lens
2. Two lenses, the first with focal length -12.5 cm and the second with focal length 20.0cm, are separated by 15.0 cm. If an object is placed 50.0 cm in front of the first lens, what is the total magnification? - the answer is (-0.800) but idk how to solve this probably because idk how to solve the first equation 1. Explanation / Answer

Refraction of first lens is given by 1/u1 - 1/v1 = 1/f

1/v1 = -1/12.5 -1/50

V1 = -10 cm ( means it i eft ot the lens)

so

for second lens u2 = -10 -15 = -25 cm

use 1/V2 = 1/f2 - 1/u2

1/V2 = 1/20 - 1/25

V2 = 100 cm

so answer is the option D

--------------------------------------

total Magnification M = m1m2

m1 = v1/u1 = 10/50 = -0.2

m2 = V2/u2 = 100/25 = 4

M = 0.2* 4 = - 0.8
