Question

The period T of a simple pendulum was measured as a function of the length L of the pendulum. A student plotted a graph of period squared T^2 versus length L, including error bars. The is graph is presented below.

a) Calculate the slope of the "best" fit line. Name the 2 points on the graph you used to calculate the slope.

b) using the error bars, draw the "steep" fit (or max slope) line. Calculate the slope mmax of the steep fit line. Name the 2 points you use to find the slope.

c) Calculate the uncertainty in the slope using ; uncertainty = shope of steep fit line - slope of best fit line

d) write slope and uncertainty in proper form.

Explanation / Answer

slope is 4 pi2/g = 4.024 which is the approximate same in point 3.6, 4.8, and 6 point values.so best fit line has slope =4

uncertainity = 4.024 -4 =0.024
