Traits for strength and vitality are favored over other traits. 8. Random variation exists for every trait in a population. C. There will always be competition for resources D. Those with advantageous traits will outreproduce others. 7. The founder effect is a specific type of A. gene flow. B. meiosis C. genetic drift D. mutation. 8. List two of the seven key conditions necessary for a trait to be in equilibrium. 9. In the Hardy-Weinberg equation, whet does o stand for? 10. In the Hardy-Weinberg equation, what does q stand for?Explanation / Answer
Evolution is the change in heritable characteristics of a biological population over several generation and relies on the process of natural selection. This heretable characteristics are expression of genes that passes in successive generations during reproduction and it tends to exist within a given species as a result of mutation, genetic recombination and other sources of genetic variations.
The rate of evolution is measured as the rate of change of genotype of species over a period of time or it can be said that it is a measurement of change in evolutionary lineage over time. It is measured in darwin.
r=(ln(x2)-ln(x2))/Dt
Dt is the time interval between the characters that has been measured at two diffrent times
x2 and x1 is the average value of the characters in the later sample and in the earlier sample respectively.
2) FALSE ( It occurs at the level of population)
3) TRUE
4) FALSE ( Evolution occurs in succesive generations)
5) A. Natural selection
6) C. There will always be competition for resources.
7) C. Genetic drift
Because getic drift describes the loss of allelic variation that accompanies finding of a new population from a very small number of individuals.
8) The 2 condition for the traits to be equilibrium are
a. No change in allelic frequency due to mutation and
b. No natural selection
9) p stands for frequency of the homozygous genotype. Example p is the frequency of the 'A' allele of the homozygous genotype AA
10)q stands for frequency of the homozygous genotype. Example q is the frequency of the 'a' allele of the homozygous genotype aa
