When he got home they saw that one strawberry in the container was moldy. She suggested that they return it. He suggested they throw away the one moldy strawberry and keep the rest. As he put it "you can obviously see only one strawberry is moldy, the rest are not". So, what should they have done? Keep or return the strawberries? He should discard the whole container. Molds are type of fungi that reproduce by producing spores (can be asexual, sexual or both types) and spore produced by single mold is numerous. These spores are invisible to naked eye and spread to nearby surrounding (which in this case are other strawberries). It takes sometime for these spores to germinate and during this interval they do not show any gross change to fruits affected. It is only when they have matured enough to reproduce again that these mould show gross visible changes. So other strawberries in that container may be affected so it is better to throw them.
