A) what are the respective horizontal and vertical components of the initial velocity of the football ?
B) how long is the football in the air ? Neglect air resistance
C) how far does the football travel horizontally before it hits the ground?
Explanation / Answer
a) horizontal component= vx= v cos(theta) = 18* cos(65) = 7.6 m/s
vertical component= vy= v sin(theta) = 18* sin(65) = 16.31 m/s
b) from vertical component we can find the time to reach the maximum height
the time of flight will be 2 time of it
so , at top vertical velocity =0
so we have,
0 = 16.31 -9,8t
=> t= 1.66 m
so time of flight= 1.66 * 2= 3.32 secs
c) horzontal distance= vx* t= 7.6 m/s * 3.32 secs= 25.23 m
