Question

What is the answer to #8? I know #7

A football is kicked with a speed of 18 m/sec at an angle of 65 degree to horizontal. (a) What are the horizontal and vertical components of the initial velocity of Football? How long is football in air. How far does football travel horizontally before it hits the ground. A baseball player bounces off a baseball off the floor by giving it a downward velocity of 3 m/sec at height of 1 m above the floor. The ball bounces off the floor and rises to the height of 0.8 m. What is the impulse applied by the floor to the ball, find the magnitude and direction. Mass of ball is 0.5 kg.

Explanation / Answer

Initial Momentum of the ball before touching the ground:

-Vi = 3 + sqrt(2*g*h)

= 7.42 m/s

Pi = 0.5 * Vi = -3.71 kg.m/s

Now Calculating final momentum of the ball:

Vf (Velocity of the ball just after touching the ground) = sqrt(2*g*0.8)

Vf = 3.95 m/s

Pf = 0.5*3.95 = 1.97 kg.m/s

Hence change in momentum = Pf-Pi = 1.97-(-3.71)

Impulse = 5.68 kg.m/s (Direction = Upwards)
