Question

In the following circuit, the battery has been turned on for a long time. Now   the resistance R1 start to decrease. Using Lenz's Law, determine the direction of the current I2 in the resistor R2 when the resistance R1 is decreasing.

       a) It is to the right.                                        b) It is to the left.

       c) The current is zero.                                   d) It can not be determined.

                                       R1                                   R2

The Answer is A but how?????

Explanation / Answer

You have not provided any circuit diagram.

Lenz's law states that:

The direction of current induced in a conductor is in such a fashion, that it opposes its cause.

So, when resistance starts to decrease, the current direction is to the right.
