Question
Which of Mendel's findings provided the best evidence for the principle of independent assortment?
A tall plant and dwarf plant will produce all tall offspring.
Homozygous recessive traits are always rare.
A dihybrid cross will result in non-parental phenotype combinations (not seen in original P generation)
A monohybrid cross will result in a 1:2:1 genotype ratio.

Explanation / Answer
Answer-
A dihybrid cross will result in non-parental phenotype combinations (not seen in original P generation).
Explaination- It can be seen only in dihybrid cross when we took two gene togther in a cross and they form different combination of gamete which mates to give rise new character .for example mendel took two character i. seed shape and seed colour in which Round and Yellow dominant and Wrinkled and Green are recessive which upon cross gives Round and Yellow in F1 generation And on selfing F1 it gives F2 generation with two new kind of phenotype which are Round and Green & Wrinkled and Yellow. and gives a ratio fo 9:3:3:1 in which 9 are Round and Yellow, 3 are Round and Green, 3 are Wrinkled and Yellow and 1 is Wrinkled and Green. This ratio only obtained on the basis of law of independent assortment i.e. the two genes are assorted independently at the time of gamete formation.
