I have a question about a simple pendulums lab. Why is it necessary to measure several periods at a time, rather than just one period? The best I can figure is that it is simply to see if your numbers are accurate. We timed four ocsillations for each period, and repeated the process five times, each time increasing the lengrth of the string attached to the bob by 0.10m. So for the first trial, the length of the string was 1.0m, the time it took for 4 cycles was 7.97s, and the period T was 1.99s. In the second trial, the length of the string was 1.10m, the time for four cycles was 8.62s, and period T was 2.16s....and so on. So I don't really see why several periods needed to be measured for this lab. Any explaination?

several periods are needed to have the average period for the experiment. also each period is determined at different length . this healps in analyizing the dependence of time period on the length of pendulum. so with change in length of pendulum , we can observe how the value of time period change .
