1. Explain how LUCA was originated from inorganic molecules. Do not forget to mention where/when this happened and the key events that took place -mentioning the advantage conferred by every event. 2. Explain how eukaryotes (both heterotrophic and autotrophic) were originated. Do not forget to mention where/when this happened and the key events that took place - mentioning the advantage conferred by every event to the survival of eukaryotes. 3. Sexual selection: Types, examples, beneft. How does sexual selection affect male Vs female aspect? Why'?Explanation / Answer
1. Luca (Last Universal Common Ancestor) is the organism, from which all organisms who live now in earth have originated. LUCA lived 3.5 to 3.8 billion years agoin the Paleoarchean area. Metabolism was the first thing, needed. It breaks down some substances to release energy and it synthesizes too some other substances which are required in an living cell. The cell is run by ATP. So, ATP as well as LUCA started from an inorganic molecule, phosphate. Phosphate is an atom of phosphorus, attached to 4 atoms of oxygen. After than, different molecules involved in metabolism, come in the picture. Those are acetic acid, which contain two carbon atoms. Acetic acid reacts with CO2 to produce pyruvic acid, which has three carbon atoms. Pyruvic acid then reacts with CO2 to make the 4 carbon oxaloacetic acid. Some other reactions produce larger molecules, like citric caid which has 6 carbon atoms. Citric acid splits into two smaller molecules, like acetic acid (two carbon atoms) and oxaloacetic acid (4 carbon atoms).
2. The time period was Proterozoic when eukaryotes evolved. The oldest eukaryotic fossil is almost 1.5 billion years old. Eukaryotes were evolved from prokaryotes, because, both of them use DNA and RNA as genetic material. Both of them use same 20 amino acids. Both of them have ribosomes. Both of them have cell with lipid bilayer. Both of them use L amino acids and D sugars. Autotrophic were also evolved from prokaryotes, as endosymbiotic theory supported the transfer of chloroplast from bacteria to eukaryotes.
3. Sexual selection is a different mode of natural selection, when members of one biological sex select mates of other sex to mate with. There are two types of sexual selection. They are Intersexual selection and Intrasexual selection. Intersexual selection is a type of sexual selection which is between two sexes. For example, females choose male peacocks with brightly coloured tails. Intrasexual selection is a sexual selection within a sex. As an example, in many primates a male attempts to keep other males away from the females so that he can be the primary and only option.
Sometimes, Large and aggressive male primates attack with their large canine teeth and usually the ones who are able to mate and pass along their genetic material. Thus, there is no selection from a different sex. The selection is within the same sex. This helps that the female gets the best genetic material from the male as to grow large canines and defeat other males, he should be healthy and should carry good genetic material.
