Question

Electric Sources, Fields, and Forces Two particles of identical particles of unknown charge are glued to a piece of insulating paper. You place a positively charged particle near two one of the two particles. When you release the the new particle, it starts to accelerate away from the particle near it toward the other particle. What is the sign of the charge of the two original particles? Describe bow the third particle behaves as it approaches the other particle (docs it speed up, slow down, keep moving steadily? Will it turn a ion/id eventually or just shoot through the other particle?)

Explanation / Answer

Answer: Here, new particle is a positively charged particle, which accerlates away from the particle near it towards the other particle. This observation shows that two original particles are also positively charged particles and charge of 2nd particle is greater than that of 1st. As it will aproach 2nd particle, due to positive charged on both, it will again repelled and turn arround eventually.
