Question

Need help with problem for understanding purposes, not simply the answer. Please show steps & give explanations where necessary. The professor provided the answer 1.7 kV for this problem. Please show steps to come to this answer. Thank you!!!

An ac generator consists of 100 loops of wire, each of area 0.090 m2, and has a total resistance 12 ?. The loops rotate about a diameter in a magnetic field of 0.50 T at a constant angular speed of 60 revolutions per second. Find the maximum induced emf in the generator.

Explanation / Answer

The induced EMF is given by, E = - d/dt
Where,
= N*B*A*cos(w*t),

A = 0.09 (m^2)
B = 0.5 (T)
w = 2**60 = 120 (rad/sec)
N = 100

E = -d/dt * (N*B*A*cos(w*t))
E = N*B*A*w*sin(wt)
E = 100 * 0.5 * 0.09 * 120* sin(120*)
For Maximum Value, sin(120*) = 1
Emax = 1.7 kV
