Given that the magnetic field is in the z direction, what is the magnitude such that an ion might experience no force (for a speed as given in 4a') and what direction must the ion be travelling?

The speed of the particle will be

1/2 mv^2 = E*d (work energy theorem)

V = sqrt 4.8E-19 * 2000 *2 / 5.2 E-25

V = 6 E4 m/s

The magnetic field will put a centripetal force on the particle .Making it go in a helical path.

The magnitude will be

E = vB

B = E/v = 1000/6E4 = 0.016 T
