Question

Thanks in advance!!

The figure shows a circuit with a battery and five resistors. What is the current through and the potential difference across each resistor R_1 | = 3.00 ohm. R_2 | = 5.00 ohm, R_3|= 4.00 ohm, R_4 | = 13.0 ohm, R_5|= 14.0 ohm and v = 34.0 V. Current through R_1 | Potential difference across R_1 |Current through R_2 | Potential difference across R_2 |Current through R_3 | Potential difference across R_3 |Current through R_4 | Potential difference across R_4 |Current through R_5 | Potential difference across R_5 |

Explanation / Answer

R3 R4 are in parallel

R34 = (R3*R4)/(R3+R4)

R34 = (4*13)/(4+13) = 3.06 ohms

R34 is in series with R2

R234 = R2 + R34 = 8.06 ohms

R234 & R5 are in parallel

R2345 = (R234*R5)/(R234+R5)

R2345 = (8.06*14)/(8.06+14) = 5.11

R1 , R2345 are i series

Rtot = R1 + R2345

Rtot = 3 + 5.11 = 8.11 ohms

I1 = V/Rtot = 34/8.11 = 4.19 A

I2 = (I*R2345)/R234 = (4.19*5.11)/8.06 = 2.66 A

I3 = I2*R34/R3 = (2.66*3.06)/4 = 2.03 A

I4 = I2 - I3 = 0.63 A

I5 = I1-I2 = 4.19 - 2.66 = 1.53 A

++++++++

V1 = I1*R1 = 4.19*3 = 12.6 V

V2 = I2*R2 = 2.66*5 = 13.3 V

V3 = I3*R3 = 2.03*4 = 8.12 V

V4 = I4*R4 = 0.63*13 = 8.12 V

v5 = 1.53*14 =
