Resistivity is an intrinsic property of the material and it is defined such that resistance is directly proportional to resistivity. L = length = resistivity : = The resistance R of a material of length L and area A is given as where is the resistivity of the material.

Explanation / Answer

Let the Resistance of the Copper Wire be R and that of the Rheostat be Rrh.

In presence of only the Rheostat the circuit is analyzed to give the equivalent resistance. Rrh = V/I

Next the copper wire added to the circuit makes equivalent resistance R + Rrh. Since Rrh is already known we can find R easily. Given the Radius of the wire, we calculate Are and using Length calculate resistivity from the expression of Resistance.

The error that come inot the final result is from the cumulative error of measurement of Length, radius of wire and accuracy of Voltmeter and Ammemeter.
