se Home 9/25 Homework Neurons Part1 IP 2.0: Generation of an Action Potential 6 of 19 Arrange the following events in the correct order, from left to right, with respect to the function of the channels, ion permeability, and changes in membrane potential. Rank the items from first to last. To rank items as equivalent, overlap them. View Available Hint(s) Reset Help K ion flow out of the neuron increases Na ion flow into the neuron increases Repolarization of the membrane Depolarization of the membrane to +30 mV Opening of voltage-gated Na channels Threshold achieved Return to resting membrane potential The correct ranking cannot be determined

Explanation / Answer

The action potential begins with depolarization of membrnae to +30 mV. This triggers the opening up of Na channel and Na rushes into the cell. This increase the membrane potential causing opening of K channel and closing of Na channel. Repolarization begins. Finally cell reached equilibrium position and resting membrane potential nis achieved.
