Question
A6 Patient 3 is Type O and needs 1 unit What is the right way to distribute the blood transfusions? Answer the following questions regarding the pedigree below: . . a. Which is the most likely mode of inheritance? Explain why? Which genotype can the male 6 in the second generation? What is the probability for couple 8 and 9 of having a healthy child? Show all possible genotypes. b. c. 10 12 3 15 te 16 3. Ealculate the probability of a specific outcome of the cross, using the mathematicalSPLIT METHOD DELLExplanation / Answer
a)The most likely mode of inheritance is Autosomal Recessive.
ANALYSIS: i)The trait skips generations,e.g. children 6,7 and 8 are not affected.
ii)Unaffected individuals(15 and 16) have unaffected parents(8 and 9) and affected individual(17) has unaffected parents(8 and 9).Affected individuals must have one parent affected for Dominant trait which is not seen in case of individual 17.
iii)Affected parents(10 and 11) produce all affected offsprings(16 and 19)
----- so the trait is recessive
i)Affected father(1) & unaffected mother(2) produce all normal progeny(6,7,8)
ii)Almost equal number of males and females are affected. In case of sex linked recessive trait , the sons of affected female(4) should be affected which is not seen in individual 9.
iii)in case of sex linked recessive trait , the affected female must come from affected father which is not seen in individual 17
----------- So the trait is Autosomal Recessive.
b) aa X A(A/a) [ A for dominant, a for recesive allele]
1 2
|
aa X Aa
5 6
|
aa Aa
13 14
The male 6 has genotype Aa.
c) Aa X Aa
8 9
|
A(A/a) A(A/a) aa
15 16 17
So the probability for couple 8 and 9 of having a healthy child is 3/4 i.e. 75%.
