Resource Defense Model- a type of social structural behaviour where survival is based on maximising the amount of food, nutrients and water necessary to sustain life.

Predation Avoidance Model- survival is based on preventing the deaths of population members through organisms higher in the food chain and hence, maintaining survival of the species.

If the howler formed groups for resource defense, what would be the expected relationship between group size and territory size? Can you tell me how this data supports the Resource Defense Model.

For resource defense, group size should be comparable or atleast higher than that of predation avoidance to territory size.

This is essential to maximise the amount of nutrition and habitat. Higher population means higher rates of control of the territory by a specific population and hence, higher yields.
