Question

A series RCL circuit is comprised of a 200 Ohm resistance 5.00- mH inductor and a 3.50- mu F capacitor. What is the impedance of this circuit at resonant frequency? 180 Ohm 200 Ohm 214 Ohm 220 ohm the next two questions concern the same physical situation. A series LRC circuit contains the following components as shown in the picture. The compounds are connected to an alternating voltage source with a frequency of 100 Hz. In this circuit compare the voltage to the current. The voltage is leading the current. The voltage is lagging the current. The voltage is in phase with the current. What is the impedance of the circuit? Z = 15.6 Ohms Z = 54.2 Ohms Z = 94.3 Ohms Z = 134.5 Ohms Z = 306.9 Ohms If the frequency of the voltage source was increased the rms value of the current flowing in the circuit would: Increase Decrease Remain the same

Explanation / Answer

I will answer for now question 16.

First, calculate the angular frequency w:
w = 1/(LC)1/2
w = 1/(5x10-3 * 3.5x10-6)1/2 = 7559.29 rad/s

XL = wL = 7559.29 * 5x10-3 = 37.8
XC = 1/wC = 1/(7559.29 * 3.5x10-6) = 37.8

Z = (R2 + (XC-XL)2)1/2
Z = (2002 + (37.8-37.8)2)1/2
Z = 200 ohm. option B.

Hope this helps
